BBC3 doc looks at estate life

BBC3 in the UK will look at life on one of the country’s toughest housing estates and the pressures of becoming a young first-time parent in two new documentary series airing this year.

We Call It Home (working title) tells the story of young people growing up on a north Manchester estate, touching on issues like teenage pregnancies, jail sentences and drug-addicted parents. The 6x60′ series will be produced by Dragonfly Productions.

Firecracker Films’ New Kids on the Block (wt, 4x60′) follows four sets of new parents who spend the first months with their children living alongside one another in the same apartment building.

The youth-skewing network said it will also launch season six of Renegade Pictures-produced wedding show Don’t Tell The Bride in August. The BBC put out a casting call for participants earlier this year.

This month, BBC3 also commissioned a new six-part comedy series called Cuckoo from Roughcut Television, producer of The Office and The IT Crowd.
