Sundance Channel in the US has added another international coproduction to its original drama slate after partnering with the BBC to produce spy miniseries Restless.
Written by author William Boyd and based on his novel of the same name, the 2x90′ drama tells the story of a woman who discovers her mother has been working as a British spy.
It is produced by Endor Productions, part of the Red Arrow Entertainment Group since March, and filming is due to begin this summer in the UK and South Africa.
Endor’s Hilary Bevan Jones produces, with Boyd and Matthew Read exec producing for the BBC and Christian Vesper for Sundance Channel. Red Arrow’s distribution arm SevenOne International holds sales rights.
The cast includes Hayley Atwell, Rufus Sewell, Michelle Dockery, Charlotte Rampling and Michael Gambon.
Sarah Barnett, general manager of Sundance Channel, said Restless was “a compelling new tale of espionage, complete with fresh, arresting characters and surprise at every turn.”
Other original series on Sundance Channel include Carlos and Appropriate Adult, while it is coproducing writer/director Jane Campion’s miniseries Top of the Lake with See Saw Films, BBC2 and pay-TV network UKTV in Australia and New Zealand.
Restless is due to air on BBC1 and Sundance Channel later this year.
