US cablenet Lifetime has given a series order to a new drama from Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry that was originally developed for broadcast network ABC.
ABC Studios will produce 13 episodes of Devious Maids, which about the lives of four maids who work for the rich and famous in Beverly Hills.
It is based on the Mexican telenovela Ellas son la Alegría del Hogar. Cherry will exec produce with Sabrina Wind, Eva Longoria, Paul McGuigan, Larry Shuman, David Lonner, John Mass, Paul Presburger and Michael Garcia.
The show will star Judy Reyes, Dania Ramirez, Ana Ortiz and Roselyn Sanchez and will air in 2013.
The pilot of Devious Maids was originally filmed for ABC earlier this year but network executives passed on the show for its 2012/13 schedule.
However, the show will now form part of Lifetime’s push into original drama series, following The Client List, Army Wives and Drop Dead Diva.
Desperate Housewives ran for eight seasons on ABC until it ended earlier this year.
