A US cable channel has pre-bought documentary Married to the Moonies (1x60′) from UK-based Zodiak Rights, which has also closed more sales of My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.
Discovery Communications-owned TLC has bought the Moonies doc, which comes from UK indie Firecracker Films and promises “unprecedented” access to the US’s Unification Church, known informally as the Moonies. The film aired on UK terrestrial Channel 4 (C4) last month and will debut in the states in July.
Zodiak Rights has also secured sales of season two (7x60′) of Firecracker’s most successful production, My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding, in eight territories. TVNZ (New Zealand), XYZ (Australia), RTL Nederlands, TVM (Belgium) and TLC in the Balkans, Romania, Russia and Poland have all acquired it.
Firecracker and Zodiak will launch a spin-off series from the Gypsy franchise later this year. Thelma’s Gypsy Girls (6x60′) will broadcast first on C4. Zodiak has first look at all Firecracker programmes and will launch a new pair of docs, I Want to Change My Face (1x90′) and We’re Having a Baby (working title, 1x90′) at Mipcom.
