DOC/FEST: A documentary about the infamous case of US lawyer Marc Dreier, sentenced to 20 years in prison for fraud in 2009, has landed a UK broadcast deal.
The BBC’s Storyville editor Nick Fraser revealed to delegates at Sheffield Doc/Fest that he had picked up Unraveled, a 2011 documentary directed by Marc H Simon.
The feature-length film focuses on Dreier during his period of house arrest, as he awaited his sentence for eight counts of money laundering and fraud. Dreier, once a prominent Manhattan lawyer, garnered US$700m from hedge funds with fake promissory notes and was also implicated in other investment fraud cases.
The film was produced by Simon’s Stick Figure Productions along with Elementary Films and Ambush Entertainment.
