BANFF: Canadian specialty Space has ordered a new sci-fi series from Temple Street Productions and the creatives behind both Spartacus and Flashpoint.
The Bell Media-owned channel has ordered a 10x60′ run of Orphan Black, a drama about a young woman who assumes the identity of a dead stranger, only to be caught up in the eerie details of her life.
It is the second recent order for the Toronto-based shop from a Bell channel, following CTV’s nod for the drama Motive last month.
Orphan Black was created by Graeme Manson – who has written and worked on Canuck titles including Flashpoint and Being Erica – and John Fawcett, best known for directing series including Spartacus, Rookie Blue and Lost Girl.
The series will be executive produced by Ivan Schneeberg and David Fortier, and distributed outside Canada by BBC Worldwide.
“Orphan Black has the perfect blend of excitement, mystery and action,” said Corrie Coe, head of independent production at Bell Media.
Production starts this fall.
