European broadcast group Viasat has partnered with Norwegian pubcaster NRK to secure 3D coverage of this year’s London Olympics for one of its channels.
The Viasat 3D channel will broadcast eight hours of live coverage every day during the London 2012 Olympics, as well as four hours of daily highlights. It will be the only Norwegian pay-TV channel showing 3D coverage of the games, which begin on July 27.
As part of the sub-licensing agreement, Norwegian public broadcaster NRK will broadcast HD Olympic coverage on its NRK1 and NRK2 channels, which are also available on the Viasat satellite platform in Norway.
Viasat and NRK previously cooperated during the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, with Viasat broadcasting HD coverage of the games in Norway for the first time.
Other broadcasters committed to airing 3D coverage of the Olympics this summer include Network Nine in Australia and UK pubcaster the BBC.
