Celebs provide Kanal 5 comedy

Kanal 5 in Sweden is looking for laughs with a new show based on a Danish format that challenges celebrities to perform stand-up comedy.

Mitt liv är ett skämt (My life is a joke, 8x60′) will see famous faces from across Sweden undergo coaching sessions before performing their new stand-up comedy routines in front of an audience.

The SBS-owned network will start filming the series, produced by Nordisk Film, in Stockholm in August. It is due to air this autumn.

The show is based on the format Celebrity Stand-up, which has aired on TV2 Zulu in Denmark where it is known as Vild met Comedy (Wild with Comedy).

SBS is currently looking for a new programming director following the departure of Lars Beckung, who is leaving the role next month.

Another celebrity stand-up comedy show recently brought to air is Show Me The Funny, which aired on UK broadcaster ITV1 last year, while format rights have been picked up by Anna Carrfors Bråkenhielm’s Scandinavian Studios prodco.
