The CEO of Australasian DTH channel operator Vision Asia has been poached to grow Indian joint venture Viacom18′s North American business.
Sameer Goswami becomes Viacom18′s first VP and head of business operations for North America, responsible for managing activities across the US and Canada, including US general entertainment channel Aapka Colors.
The four-year-old channel, which partners Viacom and Network18 control, broadcasts successful Colors programming such as Balika Vadhu, Veer Shivaji, and Uttaran.
Goswami joins from Vision Asia, a pay-TV platform aimed at South East Asians living in Australia and New Zealand that offers channels including Viacom18-owned Colors, Zee TV, Star Plus, MTV and Sony Entertainment Television.
He reports into Viacom18 head of distribution and international sales Gaurav Gandhi, who said: “I am confident that Sameer’s valuable experience in media and broadcast and his entrepreneurial mindset will be a great asset in growing Aapka Colors’ business in North America.”
The news comes days after Turner Broadcasting System decided to close down its Indian general entertainment channel, Imagine, and its international sister feed under the weight of stiff local competition.
