FME wins martial arts sales

MIPTV: FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) has notched up further sales for its mixed martial arts property Bellator Fighting Championships across Europe, Asia and Latin America.

Multi-year broadcast rights to the tournaments have gone to Canal+ Poland; Celestial Tiger Entertainment, for syndication in 13 countries across South-East Asia; and Esporte Interativo in Brazil.

Last month, Indian joint venture Big RTL acquired broadcast rights to Bellator for its upcoming channel Big RTL Thrill, while Turner Broadcasting System in Latin America picked up rights for syndication in more than 48 countries.

FME also sold rights to Israel’s Ananey Communications, for its men’s channel Ego, and to Norway’s TV2.

David Ellender, FME’s global CEO, said Bellator, now seen in over 60 countries on four continents, was fast becoming a worldwide hit.

FME holds the exclusive TV distribution and brand licensing rights to the tournament, which it picked up at the end of 2011.

The Bellator Fighting Championships consist of an annual 12-week eight-man tournament across the US and Canada and is now is its sixth season.
