Borgia heads East

MIPTV: SPI International has licensed Eastern European pay-TV and basic cable rights for the first two seasons of Tom Fontana’s period drama series Borgia.

The US$30m series will air on SPI’s FilmBox premium pay channels in Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania in early spring 2013. The deal with the show’s distributor Beta Film excludes Albania.

In related news, SPI has acquired 27 episodes of documentary series Nature & Science from Global Telemedia for its new worldwide documentary channel DocuBox HD. The series was originally aired on ABC in the US.
