Netflix and The Weinstein Company have signed a multi-year agreement covering a host of recent movies including multiple Oscar nominee The Artist.
Other titles covered under the deal include Undefeated, the doc about an inner-city US high school football team, and specialty films that will be available to Netflix subscribers in the US within one year of their theatrical release.
Titles include the French-language war drama Sarah’s Key, the recent French box office record-breaker The Intouchables and the Shakespeare adaptation Coriolanus, directed by and starring Ralph Fiennes.
The deal marks the first agreement between the netcaster and Weinstein and grants Netflix rights to The Artist ahead of premium cable channels like HBO, Showtime and Starz .
“It is a fantastic coup for Netflix to acquire The Artist and the package of additional titles,” said Harvey Weinstein.
