Two German broadcasters have picked up a science documentary about people who experience pain simply through imagining it happening.
Franco-German network Arte and the BR arm of German broadcaster ARD are on board as co-production partners on The Nocebo Effect, a 1x52’ doc produced by Gebrueder Beetz Filmproduktion.
The film, currently in preproduction, examines a scientific phenomenon that causes physical pain purely through the power of belief – the opposite of the placebo effect.
The doc will feature an actor simulating depression to test the theory that he could then become depressed himself and has been described as a “dark and revealing journey into the human psyche.”
Producers Gebrueder Beetz are in Prague this week at the World Content Market seeking further co-production partners and broadcasters for the project.
