Brazilian broadcaster Bandeirantes has ordered a local remake of Still Standing, the Israeli gameshow, following the debut of the US version on NBC recently.
The Bandeirantes Communications Group network will launch its own version later this year, with a local producer being lined up to create the show.
The trivia format, originally developed by July-August Production for Israel’s Channel 10, sees one main competitor and 10 challengers compete for a US$1m jackpot, with losers evicted from the game through trap doors under their feet.
The commission comes after Still Standing completed its second season on Israel’s Channel 10, where it scored strong ratings. A third season has been ordered for spring this year.
US broadcaster NBC launched its version, Who’s Still Standing?, in December and is currently running the show weekly. Spain’s Antena 3 and Hungary’s M1 have both aired local versions with success and 10 others are in development in territories such as France and Germany.
“We were looking for a funny and exciting game to bring back this genre to Bandeirantes and we think Still Standing has all the elements to be as big a hit in Brazil as it is in Spain,” said the Brazilian channel’s research and acquisitions manager Goyo Garcia.
NBCUniversal International has Latin American and Asian format rights to the gameshow. Armoza Formats, which brought it to NBC, has format rights in all other territories.
