A broadcaster in Uruguay has picked up Brazilian broadcaster Globo TV’s successful telenovela Brazil Avenue.
Teledoce in Uruguay will air the drama, which follows an orphan girl as she plots to take revenge on the evil stepmother who abandoned her as a child in a Rio garbage dump.
Globo is currently aiming to get the telenovela remade in the US.
Episodes of Brazil Avenue scored around 38 million viewers each in Brazil and the season finale was watched by more than 50 million people, making it the country’s most popular television programme of 2012, according to research firm Ibope.
