Apple in originals drive

Tech giant Apple is reportedly making a move into original programming to compete with SVoD services such as Netflix.

The firm has been holding preliminary talks with Hollywood execs in recent weeks about producing entertainment content, according to Variety.

Apple’s aim is to create development and production divisions that would churn out longform content for online streaming, Variety reported, quoting a source at the company.

It is understood that the California-based company is aiming to roll out its live TV service next year.

Such a move would potentially put it in competition with other streaming giants including Netflix, Amazon and Hulu, all of which are investing in original content.
