Apple is ramping up its TV output after agreeing a deal with CBS for Carpool Karaoke, the forthcoming show based on the popular segment from The Late Late Show With James Corden.

The original segment sees celebrities singing along with host Corden as he drives them various destinations. The agreement will see a new version of the show become available exclusively via streaming app Apple Music around the globe, although Corden is not expected to feature.

Instead, a new host is being sought, with Corden attached as exec producer. The show is being produced by CBS Television Studios and Fulwell 73 – the prodco run by Ben Winston, who exec produces Corden’s talker.

The arrangement with Apple, via CBS Studios International and Fulwell, will see one episode of the 16-part season become available each week to subscribers in more than 100 countries.

The original segment is set to continue on Corden’s talkshow on CBS, which also operates streaming service CBS All Access.

Apple is already working with Will.i.am on its first show, Planet of the Apps, which is being produced by LA prodco Propagate. A second series is also reportedly in the works.

The tech giant’s shares enjoyed a surge yesterday after the company reported better-than-expected third-quarter results, with CEO Tim Cook claiming that services such as its App Store and Apple Music would help bolster future growth.
