Apple adds SPT’s Guerra to new recruits

Tech giant Apple has hired a Sony Pictures Television (SPT) executive to oversee its Latin American output.

Angélica Guerra

Angélica Guerra joins as head of Latin American programming for worldwide video, having previously served as senior VP and MD of production for Latin America and US Hispanic at SPT. Guerra will report to Morgan Wandell, head of international development.

At SPT, Guerra steered a number of primetime series for the Latin American and US Hispanic markets, such as Mary Magdalene, Rosario Tijeras and Metastasis, the Spanish-language adaptation of Breaking Bad. She was also key to Colombian SPT original Anónima, a series of 70-plus episodes for RCN Televisión.

Prior to joining SPT, Guerra served as executive VP of content at Caracol Televisión and executive VP of its GenTV network.

Her departure is something of a surprise, given she had just been appointed to the senior management team in the recent shake-up of SPT International Production.

She is the latest Sony exec to be snapped up by Apple, following Zack Van Amburg and Jamie Erlicht’s move to oversee all aspects of video programming. Former head of current TV programming Kim Rozenfeld also joined the tech company in 2017.

Apple has been on a recruitment drive over the past year, having picked up Morgan Wandell from Amazon and former Channel 4 chief creative officer Jay Hunt as creative director of Europe, reporting to Erlicht and Van Amburg.
