AMC unlocks Mad Men badges with GetGlue

US cable network AMC has partnered with social media start-up GetGlue, rewarding fans of Mad Men with virtual Don Draper badges when they ‘check-in’ to the show.

AMC is the latest US channel to test the waters with the growing array of Foursquare-style services that allow consumers to register the fact that they’re watching a particular show with other fans. GetGlue, which recently launched an iPad app, is going up against others in the space such as Miso, Philo and Starling.

The AMC tie-up extends beyond Mad Men to all the network’s shows, including Rubicon, Breaking Bad and upcoming science fiction drama The Walking Dead.

Mad Men earned its social media stripes last year with AMC’s Mad Men Yourself initiative, which allowed fans to create cartoon versions of themselves as characters from the show and attach them to their Twitter profiles.

But the GetGlue campaign will now let users of the service ‘unlock’ a variety of virtual badges for checking into and interacting with Mad Men – along with the Don Draper badge, there’s one called 60s Cocktail and a Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce sticker too, denoting the fictional ad agency the series centres around.
