AMC eyes Madden after Fox exit

The president of entertainment at US network Fox is leaving the company and is set to join US cablenet operator AMC Networks, according to reports.

Fox said David Madden was stepping down to pursue other opportunities, and the veteran exec has now been tipped to join SundanceTV operator AMC, whose president of original programming and development Joel Stillerman moved to streamer Hulu earlier this year.

Madden took up his Fox position in 2014, filling the role vacated by Kevin Reilly earlier that year.

Fox Television Group chairmen and CEOs Gary Newman and Dana Walden have chosen Michael Thorn, exec VP of development at 20th Century Fox Television (TCFTV), to replace Madden. He will report to Walden and Newman and will assume the role at the end of next month.

Thorn will assume responsibility for scripted programming and development, as well as casting at the network. A replacement for Thorn at TCFTV will be named soon, Fox added.

As exec VP of development at TCFTV, Thorn has worked on dramas and comedies including This is Us, Empire and Speechless.

He joined the studio seven years ago as senior VP for drama development after working at Lost Marbles Television, where he oversaw all scripted television and served as an executive producer on shows such as Teen Wolf.

Previously, he served as drama development team head at NBC, where he helped develop shows such as Heroes and Friday Night Lights. He also had a spell as VP of primetime series for NBC Studios.

Prior to joining NBC, Thorn served as VP of series development and programming at USA Network, where he worked on shows including Monk and Touching Evil.
