Amazon Studios boosts kids slate

Amazon Studios has greenlit five new children’s pilots made up of three animated and two live action shows from companies including Brown Bag Films and The Foundation.

Customers will once again be able to watch and provide feedback on the pilots, with Amazon then deciding which ones to take to series and make available on subscription service Prime Instant Video.

Preschool series The Stinky & Dirty Show is based on the I Stink! book series by Jim and Kate McMullan and will be animated by Irish studio Brown Bag Films, producer of Peter Rabbit, Octonauts and Doc McStuffins.

Another preschool toon, Buddy: Tech Detective, has been written by Jennifer Hamburg (Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood) and will be produced by Zodiak Kids-owned UK prodco The Foundation.

Table 58, meanwhile, is a single-camera sitcom for children aged 6-11 written by May Chan (Phineas & Ferb,). The show follows the occupants at a table in the school lunchroom made up of kids from different cliques.

In addition to the five new pilots, Amazon will also launch new episodes of its first three children’s programmes, Tumble Leaf, Creative Galaxy and Annedroids, over the next couple of months.

Amazon Studios bolstered its third cycle of pilots by ordering The Man in the High Castle, a drama based on Philip K Dick’s bestselling 1961 novel, last month.
