Amazon signs Gilmore Girls duo

Comedy drama The Marvelous Mrs Maisel will be available in 200 Amazon territories

Amazon Studios has signed a multi-year overall deal with Gilmore Girls exec producers Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino.

The spouses recently had The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, a drama series about a woman in 1958 New York who discovers she has a talent for stand-up comedy, greenlit for two seasons on Amazon’s Prime Video service.

They will now develop additional projects as part of the deal.

Amy Sherman-Palladino began her career on Roseanne during the show’s third season, before creating popular family drama Gilmore Girls in 2000.

Daniel Palladino broke into TV series in 1989, spending three years on the ABC hit Who’s the Boss?. He began a six-year stint on Gilmore Girls upon its inception, writing some of its most popular episodes and eventually directing six.

Prime members will be able to stream The Marvelous Mrs Maisel later this year.

In related news, Amazon has revealed details of the forthcoming second season of its big-budget motoring series The Grand Tour, which is fronted by former Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.

The presenting trio will spend more than 100 days touring five continents in places such as Croatia, Mozambique, Dubai, Spain, Switzerland, Colorado and New York, although the studio will be staying in one place for the show’s second run.

Season one of The Grand Tour broke records when it launched las November, becoming Amazon’s biggest show premiere ever. The Grand Tour is now also the most downloaded show on Prime Video to date.

The second season will arrive on the platform later this year.
