Amazon shows faith in Jack Ryan

John Krasinski as Jack Ryan

Global streamer Amazon has renewed its forthcoming drama series Jack Ryan for a second season before the first has become available to Prime Video subscribers.

The series is based on author Tom Clancy’s CIA agent character and is due to become available to Prime Video subscribers around the world on August 31. John Krasinski (The Office) plays the lead role.

The show’s producers – US-based Paramount Studios and Skydance Television – have already received the green light for an eight-episode second season.

Executive producers Carlton Cuse (Lost, Bates Motel) and Graham Roland (Fringe, Prison Break) will continue to serve as co-showrunners.

Cuse’s Genre Arts and Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes production shingles are on board along with Paramount and Skydance.

Actors to have played Jack Ryan in previous adaptations include Alex Baldwin, Harrison Ford and, most recently, Chris Pine.
