Amazon shoots for kids’ soccer drama

Amazon is preparing to launch a new live-action series for children based on Olympic gold medallist Alex Morgan’s bestselling book series.

The Kicks will launch on Prime Video in the US, UK, Germany and Austria on August 26, having been piloted by the SVoD arm of the retail giant last year.

Aimed at children aged six to 11, the 10-episode series follows a girl called Devin who was the star player on her soccer team until her family moved to California midway through the school year.

Now, she has to rise to the challenge after discovering her new school team has been on a losing streak over the last few months and is badly in need of a leader to turn things around.

“Both Alex Morgan and now Devin are undeniably strong female role models who will inspire our audience to work hard and passionately to achieve their goals,” said Tara Sorensen, head of kids programming at Amazon Studios.

It comes as Amazon is reportedly readying its Prime Video streaming service for launches in France, Italy and Spain by the end of 2016.
