Del Toro will executive produce Carnival Row alongside fellow Pacific Rim talent Travis Beacham, who created the project over a decade ago as a feature film.

The series is set in a city in the future, inhabited by humans and other creatures, where a serial killer is on the loose, Deadline reports.

Strange New Things, meanwhile, is an adaptation of the Michel Faber novel The Book of Strange New Things and will be coproduced by UK-based Left Bank Pictures, which is behind Netflix’s first UK original, The Crown.

Musician Brian Eno is due to record the soundtrack to the series, which has been billed as one of the most ambitious television projects to come out of the UK.

The other pilots Amazon is preparing are Tropicana, written by Josh Goldin and Rachel Abramowitz; The Legend of Master Legend, written by Micah Fitzerman-Blue and Noah Harpster; and Sherman-Palladino’s dramedy The Marvellous Mrs Maisel.
