Amazon picks Good Fight with CBS

The Good Fight is a spin-off from hit series The Good Wife

Amazon has acquired political drama The Good Fight for its Prime Video streaming service in multiple regions around the world from distributor CBS Studios International.

Under the agreement, Amazon has exclusive, first-window streaming rights to the drama in key territories in Europe, Asia and Latin America, including Belgium, France, Japan, New Zealand and Turkey. Additionally, Amazon has picked up exclusive second-window rights for the series in other markets.

The Good Fight, which is a spin-off from The Good Wife, follows lawyer Diane Lockhart as she deals with the fall-out from a financial scandal that wiped out her savings while simultaneously destroying the reputation of a young lawyer.

Produced by CBS Television Studios, Scott Free Productions and King Size Productions for CBS streaming service All Access, the series is exec produced by Robert and Michelle King (The Good Wife). Last year, Fox Networks Group picked up the German rights to the series, including all 10 episodes of the first season of the show, to air exclusively on Fox.

Armando Nuñez, president and CEO of CBS Studios International, said the deal was another “unique example of how we can window and monetise our growing slate of CBS programming for clients and audiences around the world.”

In related news, CBS All Access has renewed comedy series No Activity for a second season. The series, All Access’s first original comedy, was initially commissioned less than a year ago, and “pushed boundaries and broke rules,” according to Julie McNamara, executive VP of original content for CBS All Access.

Adapted from the Jungle-produced Australian show of the same name, No Activity is written and exec produced by original creators Trent O’Donnell and Patrick Brammall. It is produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s prodco Funny Or Die and Gary Sanchez Productions. Ferrell and McKay exec produce alongside O’Donnell and Brammall, Jason Burrows and Joe Farrell.

“No Activity flipped conventional storytelling on its head,” McNamara added. “We are confident that Trent and Patrick, along with their partners at Funny Or Die and Gary Sanchez Productions, have just scratched the surface.”
