Flynn has also signed an overall deal with Amazon for television, with Utopia the first project from the new partnership.

Utopia is a coproduction from Endemol Shine North America and Kudos, Endemol Shine Group UK’s production studio, and Amazon Studios.

The show is based on the UK series of the same name written by Dennis Kelly. Flynn is the creator, executive producer and showrunner of the new version.

Executive producers include Jessica Rhoades, with whom Flynn collaborated on Sharp Objects, Sharon Hall, Karen Wilson, Dennis Kelly and Diederick Santer.

Sharon Levy, president of unscripted and scripted television at Endemol Shine North America, will oversee production for Endemol Shine.

Utopia centres on five strangers who are pursued by a state organisation that is willing to kill them to get hold of the original manuscript of a cult graphic novel called The Utopia Experiments.

The thriller will be available exclusively on Prime Video in more than 200 countries and territories.

In related news, Amazon has taken the exclusive rights to broadcast the US Open Tennis Championships in the UK and Ireland, previously held by satcaster Sky. The five-year deal starts with this year’s tournament in August.

Amazon previously outbid Sky to take the rights to ATP Tour events excluding the majors.
