All3 acquires Wige production arm

All3Media has agreed a deal to buy the production arm of German media and technology group Wige Media.

Wige South&Browse focuses on factual entertainment programming for German networks such as ProSieben, RTL and Sky and is based in Munich. Wige bought South&Browse in 2014 after the producer had been forced to file for insolvency.

The deal will see All3Media’s German subsidiary paying around €1.1m (US$1.3m) for the South&Browse production division, with Wige Media expecting to receive €700,000 from the sale and a book profit of €600,000.

Liberty Global and Discovery Communications-owned All3 already operates a number of German production companies, including Filmpool Entertainment.

It launched a joint venture with Bon Voyage Films to produce scripted drama in May and is also a JV partner on Tower Productions, which is operated with BBC Worldwide.

All3Media restructured its German operation last year, ending the MME Moviement brand, in a move it said would allow it to grow through mergers and acquisitions.

Markus Schäfer, who was appointed CEO of All3Media Deutschland in 2015, said the South & Browse deal would strengthen the production and distribution giant’s business across the “important” factual entertainment genre.
