All3 inks African deals

CREATIVE NIGERIA: All3Media International has sealed a pair of format deals and other programme sales in Africa, bringing hits Undercover Boss and The Cube to Nigeria.

Undercover Boss first aired on Channel 4 in the UK

Factual entertainment format Undercover Boss, which follows high level corporate execs as they go undercover in their own companies, has been picked up for local production by Nigeria’s EWA Media Productions. Undercover Boss USA, produced for CBS, currently airs across Africa on BBC Worldwide.

Gameshow format The Cube, meanwhile, has also been optioned for local production in Nigeria, by FanFaceOff Global Entertainment. The prodco is looking to produce a minimum of 15 episodes to air in the territory, according to All3. The UK version of The Cube, produced by Objective for ITV, currently airs across Africa on BBC Worldwide.

“Leading on the adaptation of two of our strongest brands in the entertainment and factual entertainment genre in Nigeria, a key territory in the region, represents a fine start to our local production activities in Africa,” said Kelly Shek, sales manager for EMEA South at All3Media International.

The distributor has also signed a raft of deals for its finished programming, as North One Television’s Guy Martin-fronted factual content is picked up for broadcast across the continent. A regional package licensed to BBC Worldwide includes Our Guy in China, season three of Speed With Guy Martin and the Speed With Guy Martin F1 Special.

Discovery has acquired Guy Martin: Fastest Man on Two Wheels?, Guy Martin – Wall of Death, Guy Martin – Last of the Vulcans and Guy Martin – Our Guy in Latvia for its Africa feed. South Africa’s pubcaster SABC, meanwhile, has secured Gordon Ramsay’s Ultimate Home Cooking and both seasons of Gordon’s Great Escape.

On the drama front, season two of New Pictures drama Indian Summers was taken by BBC Worldwide, alongside season eight of Company Pictures’ detective series Inspector George Gently. South African SVoD platform Showmax has signed both seasons of New Pictures’ thriller The Missing while season 19 of Bentley Productions’ drama Midsomer Murders went to NBC in Nigeria.

Unveiled as part of the inaugural Creative Nigeria Summit in Lagos this week, the deals continue the Discovery-owned distributor’s activities in Africa. All3Media exec VP of international brands and press Rachel Glaister and Graham Spenser, exec VP of EMEA South, are both speaking at the event.

“We are aware that Nigeria is definitely a country that wants to lead the way in the region and are committed to maturing their TV industry in the digital age,” said Glaister.
