Air, rail strikes to affect MipTV

MipTV is held at Cannes’ Palais des Festivals

Delegates heading to and from Cannes for MipTV could find their journeys disrupted after France’s major air and rail carriers both warned they are facing industrial action.

Train services in the country are likely to be subject to disruption from Sunday April 8 to Monday April 9 and Friday April 13 to Saturday April 14, according to state-owned railway company SNCF.

The SNCF website warns unions are expected to strike on these days and advises passengers to check the running of their trains the day before departure.

In anticipation of the strikes, Eurostar has issued a statement saying it is expecting to run 80% of its services during the strike periods, but has cancelled a number of services on April 8. This includes five trains from London/Ashford/Ebbsfleet to Paris and two trains from these stations to Brussels/Lille. Further details of cancellations expected on April 13 and 14 will be published once available.

Anyone due to travel on one of the cancelled services can exchange their ticket free of charge or claim a full refund regardless of ticket conditions.

Air France, meanwhile, has warned it has been issued a call for strike action, affecting domestic and international flights, from several Air France staff unions for tomorrow and next Tuesday and Wednesday during MipTV but has said it is “too early to evaluate the possible impacts.”

Air France is offering rebooking options at no extra cost, regardless of fares, for flights on April 7, April 10 and April 11, with information on flight status available here.

MipTV is due to start on Monday April 9, with MipDoc and MipFormats running tomorrow and Sunday.
