African channel gets Sky carriage

African news and current affairs network Channels 24 has become available in the UK after agreeing a carriage deal with satcaster Sky.

Channels TV is operated by Channels Incorporated, founded by John Momoh, and launched on Sky channel 575 this month.

The net airs African and international news and current affairs programming covering politics, business, sports, entertainment, lifestyle and health genres. The broadcaster ordered its first original show last year.

The channel is also preparing to launch on the Freesat platform in the second quarter of 2015 and carriage deals with other UK platforms are also being considered.

The deal with Sky was struck by Canis Television & Media, a UK-based company that manages digital TV businesses for clients around the world.
