Broadcasters in Africa and Central and Eastern Europe have picked up the BBC’s rebooted version of Robot Wars.

Viasat World has acquired the first season for CEE and its CIS Explore channel, while BBC Worldwide has picked up the show for Africa from distributor Passion Distribution.

Sky New Zealand will air the show on its free-to-air channel Prime, adding to networks including ProSiebenSat.1 TV in Germany that have already picked up the programme.

The deals, which mean the 6×60’ show will now air in more than 90 territories, come after a second season was ordered by BBC2 earlier this year.

Robot Wars is produced by Mentorn Scotland and SJP Media, with their Tinopolis stablemate Passion selling the finished tape and format globally.

The show searches for the most advanced fighting robots in the country, pitching them against each other in a series of battles in a specially constructed arena.
