A&E takes on Frankenstein

MIPCOM: A&E Network US has picked up UK crime mystery drama The Frankenstein Chronicles from Endemol Shine International as part of its growing commitment to scripted fare.

The 6×60’ reworking of the classic story was produced by Rainmark Films in association with Far Moor for the UK’s ITV Encore.

Featuring a star-studded cast that includes Sean Bean (Game of Thrones, Legends), the six-part drama was created by Emmy-nominated director and writer Benjamin Ross (The Young Poisoner’s Handbook), who also directed, and writer Barry Langford (Torte Bluma).

Elaine Frontain Bryant, exec VP of programming for A&E, said the show “uniquely merges classic elements from both the crime and horror genres, which pairs perfectly with A&E’s growing scripted slate.”

French pay TV platform Canal+ acquired the drama earlier this summer.

Endemol Shine Group’s distribution arm is the worldwide distributor for the series outside of the UK and Ireland.
