A&E remakes Mexico’s Niño Santo

US cablenet A&E Network is developing a Mexican scripted series about a faith healer with Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television.

Niño Santo was created by Mexican prodco Canana and revolves around a group of young doctors who are sent to vaccinate villagers but meet a faith healer and are overcome by his apparent ability to perform miracles.

It will be produced by A+E Studios, Amblin and Canana and is being written by Mauricio Katz (The Bridge), Pedro Peirano and Pablo Cruz. All three created the original show and will exec produce the remake.

David McKillop, general manager and exec VP of A&E Network, said: “What sets this apart from other format adaptations is that we have the original creative team in place guiding the process to ensure their authentic vision remains intact for the American audience.”
