A+E, Jiangsu explore Nanking docudrama

US cablecaster A+E Networks has teamed up with Jiangsu Broadcasting in China to coproduce Second World War docudrama Scars of Nanking.

The one-hour programme looks at the American missionaries who struggled to save Chinese civilians from war crimes at the hands of Japanese invaders and to smuggle out evidence of the infamous Nanking Massacre of 1937. It will air on A+E’s History channel in the US and Asia simultaneously.

In related news, A+E Networks in the UK has ordered a one-hour special from TI Productions UK, Time Inc UK’s recently launched production arm, about serial killer Trevor Hardy.

Britain’s Forgotten Serial Killer: Trevor Hardy will explore the motivation behind the relatively unknown criminal, dubbed The Beast of Manchester, who committed three horrific murders in the 1970s.

The documentary, which will air on Crime + Investigation (CI) in the UK early next year, was commissioned by Koulla Anastasi, director of CI at A+E Networks UK, with Miki Mistrati slated to exec produced. It marks the second commission for TI Productions UK.
