A+E, CJ E&M execs join Frapa board

Global format rights protection agency Frapa has appointed two executives from the US’s A+E Networks and CJ E&M in South Korea to its general board.

Hayley Babcock

Hayley Babcock, head of formats, international programming and production at A+E, and Jin Woo Hwang, head of formats and development at CJ E&M, have both come onboard.

Frapa said the additions were “a reflection of the current dominance of both territories in the production of original unscripted content, and the corresponding influx of new Frapa members from North America and Asia.”

Prior to joining A+E in 2016, Babcock was senior VP, North America acquisitions for Shine International (Endemol Shine International’s predecessor). She has also held position at Sony Pictures Television International and Fox.

Hwang, who has been in production for more than 15 years, oversees all of CJ E&M’s original formats as well as the localisation of international titles for South Korean audiences, such as Top Gear and Who Wants to be a Millionaire?.

JinWoo Hwang

Phil Gurin, Frapa’s co-chairman and president of unscripted and alternative at IM Global Television, said Babcock and Hwang bring “insight and global perspective” to the mission of the organisation.

“More people are using our registration service, more companies are benefiting from the clear-eyed value of our analysis service and, largely thanks to our efforts, the discussion about protecting and respecting intellectual property has now become part of the global conversation,” he added.

Andrea Jackson, CEO of UK distributor Magnify Media, has stepped up to Frapa’s management board to serve as treasurer following the death of David Lyle in September.
