Acorn strikes RTÉ drama copro

US VoD service Acorn TV has partnered with Irish broadcaster RTÉ on a forthcoming legal drama created by James Phelan (Wrecking the Rising) and written by Rob Heyland (Between the Lines).

Acorn Media Enterprises (AME), the development division at Acorn, will coproduce Striking Out after partnering with Blinder Films, RTÉ and DCD Rights, which is selling the series internationally.

The four-part drama centres on the tumultuous professional and personal life of a Dublin-based solicitor and her fledgling law firm.

AME will be coproducing partner for North America and is also set to acquire rights in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. The series will premiere on RTÉ in Ireland and Acorn TV in the US next year.

The deal was brokered by Katie Holly for Blinder and Shane Murphy for AME, which is part of US-based RLJ Entertainment.

Acorn has been expanding its coproduction activity recently, having agreed deals for Sky’s Agatha Raisin and the BBC’s A Witness for the Prosecution, among others.

AME MD Shane Murphy called Striking Out “an ideal addition to Acorn Media Enterprises’ rapidly growing coproductions.”
