ABC in the US has cancelled comedy Downward Dog before its first season has finished airing.

Downward Dog is based on the web series of the same name and is about a struggling millennial, played by Allison Tolman (Fargo), told from the point of view of her canine companion.

Legendary Television and ABC Studios produced the show, with the web series’ creators/writers Samm Hodges and Michael Killen, Mosaic Media Group’s Jimmy Miller and Sam Hansen, and Animal’s Kathy Dziubek exec producing.

Miller confirmed the cancellation on Friday, adding that ABC “loved it creatively and wanted to do more, but could not figure out a way to get it done financially.”

He said the producers of the show, which formed part of ABC’s new-look schedule revealed in May, were “hell bent” on finding it a new home.
