ABC aims at The Middle spin-off

US network ABC has made a pilot order for a spin-off from Warner Bros Television (WBT)’s long-running primetime comedy The Middle.

The Middle aired on ABC for nine seasons

The creators of the original show, Eileen Heisler and DeAnn Heline, will write and executive produce the new show, which centres on actor Eden Sher’s character Sue Heck.

Heisler and Heline’s Blackie and Blondie Productions is producing in association with WBT.

The Middle followed a middle-American family including daughter Sue as she struggled to find her calling, despite plenty of optimism.

The spin-off will see her move from the small Indiana town of Orson to Chicago to pursue a new career.

The Middle ended on ABC in May having run for nine seasons. It has previously been remade in India.
