ABC, A&E prep Waco siege specials

Two US networks have unveiled factual specials that will mark the 25th anniversary of the deadly Waco siege in Texas.

ABC and A&E Network have both ordered shows about the events, which began when a raid by the FBI’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms on a Branch Davidians compound close to Waco left four agents and six members dead.

A 51-day siege ensued, which only ended when a deadly fire killed an additional 75 members of the David Koresh-led religious sect, including 23 children.

Two-hour special Truth & Lies: Waco will air on ABC on January 4 at 21.00 ET/PT and is the fifth instalment of the Truth & Lies series, which has previously explored Charles Manson and Watergate.

The show is produced by ABC News, with David Sloan attached as senior executive producer and Muriel Pearson as senior producer.

Meanwhile, Waco: Madman or Messiah is for A&E Network and explores the life of Koresh in the years leading up to and including the 51-day stand-off with the FBI.

UK-based Raw TV produces, with A+E Networks holding worldwide distribution rights. The four-hour, two-part special will premiere on January 28 and 29 at 21ET/PT on A&E.
