ABC adds to int’l remakes

ABC in the US has ordered a comedy pilot based on a Danish series being exec produced by talkshow veteran Ellen DeGeneres, marking its fourth pilot based on an international format this season.

Splitting Up Together was created by Happy End Film for TV2 in Denmark

Splitting Up Together is based on Mette Heeno’s original series of the same name about a couple whose relationship is revitalised after they divorce. The original was from Happy End Film for TV2 in Denmark.

The US version is being produced by Warner Bros TV and is being written Emily Kapnek (Suburgatory, Selfie), while DeGeneres exec produces through her prodco A Very Good Production.

ABC’s pilots already include remakes of Belgian drama Salamander, UK comedy Raised by Wolves and The Good Doctor from South Korea.

Also on ABC’s slate is comedy Charlie Foxtrot from ABC Studios, which has Aaron Kaplan and Dana Honor attached as executive producers.

The single-camera show, written by Sam Sklaver (American Housewife), follows a military dentist who looks after his brother’s fiancee during his deployment.

Meanwhile, ABC has ordered Las Reinas to pilot, after the show was first developed in 2014.

Las Reinas, from ABC Studios, is being exec produced by Mark Gordon and follows a detective who must confront her past when her work involves her estrange family.
